Oh yea, and it's pretty good too. Prominent musicians explaining why they play old-time.

I enjoyed it but I wish they put the names of the contributers on the screen as they talked.
There are three types of people in the world.....those who can count and those who can't!

Why'd they bust the back off a perfectly good fiddle?

RatLer - Posted - 10/16/2009: 15:18:19
Us banjo pickers have open back banjers...now the fiddlers don't want to be out done...so now they have an open back fiddle...

I'll bet they didn't. It's amazing what you can do with a computer.

P.S. Thanks for the post. Looks like a couple of really cool documentaries. Might have to check them out.
BTW, is there a way to edit a previuos post?
Thanks, John

Lot's of good music. One of the extra features has a number of well known old time musicians playing a favorite tune. GerryH

NO, there is NOT. Onliest thing I can suggest: Change your name and leave town. OK, seriously: Up at the top of your post, there's a collection of cutsie little pictures. the one THIRD from the right looks like a pencil. Click that, and your post will reappear. Edit the mitsakes and airs mistakes and errors, add stuff you forgot, toss in pictures, whatever.

Mike is right. Not only did they remove the fiddle back, they didn't do it cleanly—they left parts of it attached as you can see at the top of the lower bout. Shame they didn't know about PhotoShop.

I bought the DVD pre-release.
It is a good video, but I did find the lack of identifying the people speaking annoying. I'm not familiar with many of them by sight only. Also, it would have been a much better video if they had allowed the players to finish the tunes they were playing instead of only providing short clips. There was too much of the same "I grew up with it" and "I was brought into OT by ..." and too little music.
It would have also been nice if they had provided a "play all" ability to the actual music they provided instead of having to select each tune one at a time.
While I think it is a worthwhile effort, I doubt I would buy another one by them.

I was very much amused by the number of interviewees who thought they were being clever by responded, "Well, why not?!" to the title question. After about the 17th one it became hilarious!
