Just a few seconds of a warm up on John Bowlin's ground hog strut.
Gordy took this on the digital while we were setting up.
You'll be surprised when you hear the actual real recording--we think the old copperbottom Revere ware sounds the most interesting.
Yazid, Gordy and me are having a really good time with this banjo and the pots and pans too.

If you suspect you need a new banjo--you do. Trust your musical instincts. If a banjo calls to you to buy it, don't fight destiny. It was meant to be. :)

Thanks Jerry--that tune is really coming along in the studio. It is amazing that those pots and pans and teakettles and whisks ending up sounding so good with a banjo. Of course, that Bowlin fretless just about plays itself and it has a good sense of humor.

Mary, many years ago a band I was in was auditioning a female singer. She asked if her husband could come along and play persucssion. Well, he showed up with a cooking pot! But, he sounded great! On the tape, it came out as good as any conga ever could.

And--I think there is going to be a little surprise on this tune on the CD. Our producer called yesterday and he played the demo for George Clinton (yes the old skool funk guy with the dreads) and his studio team and they all just loved it ,so and he went ahead and recorded a one line vocal for us on it. (Old groundhog--on the tag).
Evidently I am expected to trade some of my banjo tracks for that--but don't mind because I am always glad when funk folks actually like banjo music. :)

That's the one. Gordy says that I am probably trading him banjo samples for a mix or two--or may have to go over to his studio and lay down a few tracks. Evidently they like banjo, but is hard to find an old time banjoist who can play to a click and will consent to be on the same track as old skool funk.
