I'm amazed at all the bluegrass we have coming in the Capital District of NY. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was here last week. In the next three months we have Steve Martin Bluegrass, Punch Brothers, Rhonda Vincent, Del McCoury, Infamous Stringdusters, David Grisman, Crooked Still, Jerry Douglas Band, David Bromberg,
I just wish I could afford it all.

Tim, I've got tickets to Rhonda and Del. I haven't heard that Jerry Douglas was going to be here. The Steve martin tickets are to costly for me. Regards, Jeff

The Jerry Douglas Band is at The Egg, December 11. Not an all bluegrass concert. Maura O'Connell and John Oates will be sharing the stage.

...and thats just the big name acts. There a two good regular bluegrass radio shows (wamc and wrpi), lots of local jams (bluegrass and old time) and a thriving traditional music scene that travels the Hudson Valley clear up into Canada with great locally based nationally known artists such as Jay Unger and Molly Mason and crazy old Frank Wakefield.
I just found out that Club Helsinki is moving from Great Barrington to Hudson NY (30 miles south of Albany) and they occasionally have a bluegrass act on stage too.

Saw Trischka, Tony Rice and Peter Rowan at the Egg last week. Awesome! And they said Bela was there two nights before.

Don't forget "the Gibson Brothers" a relatively local band that's made a big national splash in the past few years. They play in the Albany area fairly frequently.

Yeah, looks like we lucked out for a change. I've got great seats for Del and Rhonda, as well as front row for Steve and the SCR. Those Steve/SCR tickets were VERY dear however I have 12 and 14 year old girls who have a favorite actor by the name of Steve Martin and what a surprise it'll be for them next Tuesday eve when my wife and I take them for a little ride to Troy Music Hall.
