Hi Y'all,

I've been looking into getting myself a new capo. At first I used a shubb which I still use on my old Gibson (it seems to suit it) I bought a paige when I got the Huber and I get on just fine with that but I am intrigued by the Huber capo, It seems to be just the same as the paige but it costs roughly $100 more!

I have found everything Huber to be the best I've ever used, and im sure there is a good reason for the steep price tag on the Huber capo; but im afraid I can't see it?

Does anyone know anything about them? Own one? Is anyone able to tell me what warrants the $125.00 price tag? Are they better than the paige or the shubb?

Any info you have will be gratefully recieved.

I have used a variety of capos through the years -- Shubb, Scruggs-Ruben, original McKinney, Paige, Elliott, and Huber. I like the Huber the most, on account of quality of materials and construction, light weight, and lack of distortion of the strings. Plus the thumb screw is an excellent length, better than on comparable capos. For a good banjo, the Huber capo is a worthy investment.

Of course, YMMV.

I use a Huber capo and love it. The workmanship is suberb.
Banjo does stay tuned and it looks great.
It will last a long, long time with a extra sleeve.
Just my opinion , you got to make your own choice.

I use a Shubbs and it works fine for me. Easy to put on and take off with one hand.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

as far as the costs of anything it as you know based upon the maker. In this case Steve isn't the maker as he would like to be but in any case, his maker or fabricator owns a small one man machine shop and has his costs to cover and Steve sets the prices on the capos based on that. Obviously there is a markup but no more than in any other manufacture/sales relationship. You can find less expensive and more expensive models but bottom line the capo is great but there are other great ones also.

In what way is it better than the elliot?

I've used them both and both are finely made tools, for lack of a better word. They will both do the job of capoing with a minimum of retuning. The Huber sleeve is a bit softer material than the Elliott and I find I like it better. Other than that you can't go wrong with either.

I have two Huber capo and they are the best that I have used. It is worth the $100. Just put in on the neck and don't take it off and you will get your money out of it.

Practice makes "better".

That's my story and I'm sticking with it!

Acually, they are $120.00. I have a spare that I would trade for a McKinney or Elliott Guitar capo. I have used it once or twice or, I will sell it fro $100.00 shipped. Its about a month old.

Save maybe for the Elliot Elite, I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I got a Huber capo for Christmas a couple of years ago (actually, it was a present from myself. I do that sometimes).

You're correct in noting the design similarities with the Paige. I used Paiges for a year or two before I got the Huber - it's a good capo and, at its price, one might argue it's a GREAT capo. But the Huber is clearly superior - lighter, much smoother to operate, much better intonation.

Now, whether that makes it worth $90 more than a Paige for anyone else... well, I'm in no position to judge that. The Paige is definitely serviceable. For me, the Huber is more enjoyable to use.

BTW - before I got the Paige I used a Shubb. I thought it worked very well. I just had a nasty habit of losing them. You lose enough Shubbs and you're into the cost of a Huber, which stays on the neck full-time.
