I have my hand in the c chord position and the tab has the 1rst and 2nd strings ro be played at the same time. Do I use the middle and index fingers to play at the same time or do I just strum with the thumb?

Use the middle and index fingers. A strum is denoted differently in tab.

Oh and welcome to the hangout.

Pick upward with the middle and index fingers. The index would typically pick the 2nd string while the middle will pick the 1st string.

Hi Karen

It sounds as though your being asked to play a 'PINCH' - Use your Index and Middle Finger and pick both strings together.

Here is a Video Lesson that my help here the pinch is being played on the 1st & 5th strings. Thumb and Middle.. Hope this helps
