It takes a real punk to interrupt someone else's turn at the mic like that. Unfortunately, such behavior has become commonplace and even applauded lately.

JIMBO53 - Posted - 09/14/2009:  08:42:11

Can you imagine Sammy Shelor grabbing the mike from Alison Krauss and go off on some rant at the IBMA awards??? Me thinks not~~~I haven't watched a mainstream awards show in many years because of this type of boorish, unacceptable behavior.

I will say that at boorish as that lout was, Beyonce exhibited class and brought Taylor Swift on stage to let her give the acceptance speech.

I have as much respect for Mr. West as he exhibits toward others. At this point it's next to none.

EDIT: I truly hope that, as he grows older (and possibly up) he can look back and realize what a jerk he made of himself and apologize to all he wronged.

MAE West had a lot of class.
ADAM West showed a certain amount of class.
So, I just had to click on the link, to find out who the heck Kayne West is.

Used to be that I didn't know and didn't care.
The "don't know" part is cured.
The "don't care" part is going to take a while.

Looks like the guy has a history of such idiocy. Taylors reaction to the press afterwards was a real class act. She is wise way beyond her 19 years.

I liked Pink's reaction this morning... "I wish I'd have been up there, I had on my brass knuckles" or something like that. But then, I don't think anyone would dare mess with her.

Kanye West is nothing but a disrespectful little jacka*@, he thinks he is the greatest thing going in music. He can't sing or play an instrument, so I don't have any respect for the kid, I don't consider him a musician in any way.

I think this idiot just trashed his career. I never heard him perform and know nothing about him. Now I don't care to. Found some of his stuff on youtube. That isn't music!!

I must confess I am not familiar with Taylor's work either, but I have just become a fan!!

Kanye is a Grammy winning rap ?artist? that, as already mentioned, has a history of unethical, disrespectful behavior. He is the least gracious acceptor of any award and is for the most part why I don't watch award shows any more. I have seen him interrupt more than one recipient of an award with his "I'm the best" attitude. So, if this was done for publicity and ratings, they have once again driven me even further from the channel that airs their show.

Ronnie, I've noticed a few things in my five + decades on this beautiful planet. Notably, every ten years or so, rock and roll reinvents itself. So does country. They go through long periods of money-grubbing sludge in the years between, but ultimately, it always comes back to a few guys (or gals) and a few guitars putting it together in a way people are dying to hear.

I would not worry for country's resurgence. It's overdue. Just don't look for it on the radio - radio airplay is what's known as a 'trailing indicator.'

There's a time and a place for everything, and on national television after a tragic event is not a place to make asinine assumptions and statements about world leaders. I brought it up because it's perfectly relevant, the man seems prone to outlandish and ridiculous outbursts.

There is NO time and NO place on the Hangout for political posts. Which you'll learn soon enough, I'll warrant.

Not saying I disagree with your sentiment. If it makes you feel better, I think Kanye West is a talentless jerk.

I'm just saying that political posts (which yours was, by sheer dint of mentioning a polarizing political figure) a seriously frowned upon hereabouts.

So I suggest you edit that bad boy before an otherwise decent thread gets locked. And it ain't my finger on the nuke button.

If you want to buy Taylor Swift CD's you would look in the country isle in the music store. I play the old stuff, but actually like some of the new stuff. I like Taylor. I wish her luck and hope she survives the early fame.

I don't think Kanye will recover from this. His fans were dwindling from his previous outbursts, now I don't know if he has any left. South Park did an entire episode about him earlier this year, calling him out on being so arrogant and full of himself that he couldn't even understand a simple joke. After watching the episode, Kanye said he was humbled and was going relax his attitude and not talk about how great he was anymore.

I wonder were security was? From what I understand, they say he was drunk, which is still no excuse to act that way. He was drinking in plain sight on the red carpet. I can't stand what he calls music.

I have to wonder if Ms. Swift had been a singer of a different racial background would West have done that?

I'm doubting it and that's really hypocritical of him but actually expected.

That may well be the case, not necessarily because of the color of Mr. West's skin, but by his individual nature. We should be careful not to make a racial issue of this.

Ronnie, I totally agree with you. Three totally disrespectful acts within a short period of time. Started off with O'Bama being called a liar (true or false) during his speech to both houses; the female tennis player cursing and yelling other obsceneties in public at the match judge, and now this. Has civility disappeared from the face of this country?

Respect has been on a downward slope for sometime now, expecially in the larger cities and towns. We can pick the locals out from the newcommers in our town just by acts like these. We had our fair a couple of weeks ago and some out of towners did nothing but make fun of our hick music.

Still trying to figure out how Kanye West was able to be drinking a bottle on the red carpet and inside the ceremony without being kicked out by the powers that be. That is just asking for trouble. Also, trying to figure out how he was able to get up on stage, grab the microphone, and start a rant and then leave without any intervention from security

Laurence Diehl - Posted - 09/15/2009:  08:44:42

I think everyone should condemn his behavior regardless of his color, what he has said in the past or whether you like his music. He denied Taylor a precious moment in the spotlight. And he gets away with a lot because he has money and power. Nothing new there.

I felt so bad for Taylor after that Kenya episode, that poor girl didn't know what to do or say. She was on top of the world when she got the award, and that jacka$$ sure brought her down hard.

Any other reason for that famous person to make a remark like that may have given him enough grief as Kenya, but everyone knows he sure hit the nail on the head, so to speak.

I agree that his actions were totally deplorable, but I think it has hurt him far more than it hurt her. He was on Jay Leno's show Monday night (it was already scheduled before the awards show), and he was very much troubled by what he had done. His mother passed away suddenly a year or so ago, and Jay asked him what he thought that his mother would have thought about his actions, and KW broke down and couldn't really answer.

Apparently he has apologized several times, including a phone call to Ms. Swift the next day. It doesn't change what he did, but if she can forgive him (and she says she has), then who are we to keep condemning him? I'm certainly not going to buy his "music", but I do feel sorry for him. Maybe he'll turn his life around as a result of this. One positive thing for Ms. Swift, I'm sure that there are a lot more people who know who she is now, and admire her for how she has reacted.

Boy do I feel dumb.

I had NO IDEA who Kayne West nor Taylor Swift was, but when I read the title about somebody disrupting somebody's speech all I could thing of was 100% POLITICS!!

(*ahem*) Sorry Doug, but the idea of disrupting somebody's speech at this point in time, given current events, can only bring to my mind POLITICS.

So please go on with the thread, but the mere thought of interrupting a speech at this time... well... never mind!

Sorry to the mods as well. Please go on.

Taylor may not fall into the category of country, but she has some interesting stuff that is country like and brings the banjo to a lot of people that might not get much of it. Whatever the label is on her music, I think she has some interesting arrangements that put a new spin on instruments I'm sure most of us love. Some of the songs on her albums that aren't played on the radio are excellent and worth a listen.

I believe Ben still plays with her band and is quite a hit at the concerts.

Phil, I think I may respond to your daughter this way: "Now, Now young lady, that's an insult to buttheads everywhere." ;o)

What they shoulda done was kick, literally kick his stupid a## off the stage before he got two words out of his talentless mouth. But wait... that woulda been "dissin'" him and he woulda been the "victim" of... something racial no doubt.

FatManMary - Posted - 09/17/2009:  16:47:03

Who cares no one will remember who they are in a few years anyway. Swift is just Trashville's little protooled Brittney Spears. She wouldn't know what country is if ol' Hank rose out the damn grave and started into Ramblin' Man. West is just a prick who apparently is WAY too into himself. I'm glad Obama called him a jackass. That's something we can all get behind.
