Any threads on here on how to put a tomering in a Gibson RB?

The LORD will save me, and we will sing with stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the temple of the LORD (Isaiah 38:20).

Gwen,

The rim height needs to be lowered and then thinned (turned) at the top to accept the tonering. Any number of the fine banjo luthiers here on the Hangout could do it for you. Ideally, you should already have the ring in hand so the rim can be turned to precisely the correct dimensions.

Best,

John

If you are not a machinist or at least competent with a lathe I'd get someone who is to make the necessary rim cuts. If you "try this at home" you'll probably regret it. The people John refers to have a vast amount of experience doing this sort of work and believe me it will be worth the cost of a professional ring fit.
