...if this question has already been asked and answered, I apologize for asking it again...I just got a set of Keith D-tuners (for strings 2 and 3)...and the instructions say to loosen both of the screws to tune up in the first place...does this mean that both screws must be loosened each time I re-tune? If I re-tune in G when both screws are tightened does that throw off the D setting?

If you leave both little screws tightened you simply cannot tune, as the tuner can only go from the high note to the low one, and viceversa. Also, the instructions recommend that you set the high note first and then the low note, otherwise the tuners don't work properly as D-tuners. This means that yes, you have to loosen both screws for fine-tuning.

You do have to loosen them, but with the Kieth tuners, the banjo seems to stay in tune much longer.

That's because the Keith tuners are of the highest quality. But always keep in mind that "staying in tune" is also a factor of how well the string slots in the nut are cut (and kept lubricated), which also affects the ability of the D-tuners to go precisely between the two set notes without error. Or of the picker to play chokes without getting the strings dramatically flat.
