I just got back from Steve Huber's shop thursday night and Steve setup my 1934 Granada and it sure does sound good. I think Steve is Great at setting up banjo's and he is also a GREAT banjo player and a very Nice Person to go along with it.

Although this is probably "off topic" for Collectors Corner, I agree Steve is a great guy to talk to in his shop. I went there in January looking at a banjo he had for sale, and although he didn't know me from Adam, we ended up having some real nice conversations about old Gibsons, Bob Paisley, Flatt & Scruggs tapes and videos and Gibson memorabilia. I didn't succeed in buying the banjo, but I hope to have a custom Huber someday somehow.

The Old Timer, still learning!

Rodney, I agree with you about Huber's banjo set-up; he takes the time to "work his magic" with all aspects of the instrument even if it is not a Huber product! He usually plays the instrument first to hear how it sounds in his hands, then checks the neck, the pot and how it all fits together then he methodically tweeks the banjo to obtain the optimum sound. The guys in his shop have all been trained to put together the banjo; and they do an outstanding job, but Steve still sets up each banjo before it leaves the shop! On the other hand, if you have a job setting up banjos you ought to be pretty good at it after a few hundred or so! Doesn't hurt that Steve picks the everlovin' fire out of the five!

After all this time, you''d think I''d be better by now!--iluvearl

i just purchased Steve's Killer Tone banjo setup dvd.. I would highly recommend this dvd to anybody wanting to learn how to take your banjo completely apart and put it back together and set it up right.
