Do any of y'all play "Rusty Gun" or "Rusted Gun?" I heard it at a jam played by a fiddler and loved it. It was too crooked and went by too fast for me to catch it. Recordings, tab? Thanks, Ted

I sometimes play music with a Kentucky fiddle player who is a cousin to Art Stamper. I'm going to have to ask him about this tune.

I follow one of my fiddler friends on this tune. She learned it from the Art Stamper album Rizo mentioned.

Ted - I think I have the Art Stamper CD if you want to borrow. I'll check tonight. I also hear I'll be seeing you at Black Creek next weekend. Pete and I are driving down Sat. morning. Cheers, Matt

Cool Matt, I'd appreciate borrowing that. I believe it was the fiddler from the Cleary Brothers who played that at the Burly Old-Time session.
Yes, I'll see you & Pete at the Fiddler's Reunion. I'm driving down with Kathleen and she's not sure when she's going yet. Ted

Art's "Goodbye Girls" CD is one of the best stringband CDs that I own. Every cut is superb, and that band gave him perfect support. Art even sings on one cut, and Paul Brown's interview with him in the liner notes is "required reading", so to speak.

I agree with Don. "Goodbye Girls" is a great CD & Art's fiddling is entrancing. I got to see him play at Clifftop when he played there a few years back. The highlight was walking up on him while he was warming up & hearing him play with two banjo players. It was some mighty fine music!
When you want genuine music -- music that will come right home to you like a bad quarter, suffuse your system like strychnine whisky, go right through you like Brandreth''s pills, ramify your whole constitution like the measles, and break out on your hide like the pin-feather pimples on a picked goose, -- when you want all this, just smash your piano, and invoke the glory-beaming banjo! - Mark Twain,"Enthusiastic Eloquence," San Francisco Dramatic Chronicle, 23 June 1865
