I recently purchased a levy's leather cradle strap with wool padding. Needless to say, it is a pretty thick stra, but super comfortable. I am having a hard time fitting my banjo into the case with the strap attached because there is not enough room between the head and the lid of the case. Is there a better place to put it without removing the strap every time? Any advice?

I have the same problem. I have a padded Deering strap, a Deering case, and a Deering banjo, and it's a really tight fit. The only way to close the case is to wrap the strap around the brackets and then put the banjo in the case.

I have the same strap. It won't fit in my RK case without crushing the strap. I've tried everyway. I end up tucking part of it between the resonator and side of the case, but it is still a reallly tight fit. I think I'm going to switch to a narrow strap because of this.

Lay it into the case with the strap layed out on the floor close to you. Double it over at the neck and tuck it in right around the edge of the banjo closest to you between the case and the rim. Mine fits right inside there snug. Hope this works for you

Looks like you have an RK-80 based on the headstock in your avatar -- me too. So, I assume you have the same case that came with the banjo. I have a leather strap (not lined, though), and I pull the strap up around the brackets on both sides of the pot, then coil up the remainder of the strap as tight as I can and tuck it in the case under the neck, just above the resonator --there's a little bit of room there. I guess your lined strap might not fit that space though if it's too thick.

I have a veery thick padded 3.5 inch strap on my Sullivan.. I simply wrap it around the banjo right above the resonator, around the brackets, and it fits right into my case. I'm betting that my strap is thicker than yours, due to mine being handmade, and being extra wide. It should fit right in there.

My strap isn't padded or extra wide but I do like drwt1 and just wrap it around the brackets above the resonator and it fits perfectly. It is the best way I have found.

Then tuck it between the banjo & case.

I like my BlueNote strap because I just unclip it from my homemade cradle(simple nylon twine with loops in the ends that always stays on the banjo) and toss it in the accessory compartment.

Sometimes it is nice to think outside of the box. I experienced similar problems with my banjos. I solved the problem by attaching short strap parachute buckels at the banjo mounting points. I just clip my strap onto the banjo strap once I remove the banjo from the case. Actually it works out that I only need to unsnap one end of the strap (at the neck mounting point). After placing the banjo into its case, I just tuck the loose end of the strap under the lower part of the neck. It works.

I gave up trying. Have metal doggie leash snap rings on the ends of the strap. This is a 3" suede leather guitar strap that doesn't slide around and really distributes the load. Just no room in the Deering case with the Sierra. Noble idea but not going to happen.

I've got the same starp as you and I do it the same way as Ronnie, Coolspring and Hugh.

At first it was a Very tight fit, but after time the leather gets "used" to it and now it all just slips into place.

Never play the same thing once......yoR

There'a a point for open back banjos, my strap fits inside the 'jo.
