Hi all,
I found a site on the net, called Banjo Expert.com,
it is run by a guy called Ryan Crist and for $45 US dollars you can buy a lifetime membership. This gives you access to all the instructional videos, ect.
Has any one joined this site? , Or know anything about it.
I was thinking of joining, but just wanted to check it out before parting with my hard earned cash.
Thanks Ozzy.

Ryan is a very good banjo player. I have taken a couple lessons from him. I think it would be money well spent.

You might also check www.musicmoose.com. It has FREE videos and lots and lots of banjo, guitar, mandolin info.

I am thinking of joining also,
Ryan is probably great but what if he changes his career choice here.
What exactly is lifetime membership?

Texasbanjo - Posted - 11/13/2008:  05:54:36

I would presume that a lifetime membership means as long as he has his site up and running. When the site is no longe rthere, the membership ceases because there's nothing to see or read or copy.

I like Ryan's site. He's got some very good topics for all levels with excellent videos for each. He just put up Dueling Banjos - a 3 part series which looks like it's going to be fun to learn.

I was just at his site...

Are we able to view any of his videos to get an idea what you are joining the site for...or do you have to pay your money and take a chance....

Thanks for all of the great questions about our site.

The goal of banjoexpert.com is to provide video banjo lessons on a regular basis at your request. We have a lot of wonderful members and are constantly looking to be on the cutting edge of online video lessons.

I'll take a moment to answer the questions posed so far:

1. Do you have any free lessons? Yes, we upload all of our free lessons to www.youtube.com/ultimatebanjo. They are also located on the site and you'll be directed to them if you choose to sign up for our banjo tips newsletter.

2. What if Ryan changes his career choice? I'm a power lineman by day and a banjo teacher by night. I love to give video lessons on the site and take great pride in providing outstanding "to the point" weekly video lessons. My career won't affect your top notch video lessons.

3. Are lessons posted every week? Yes, this is our goal; however sometimes this will mean two or three lessons posted in one week and a two week gap if needed. We just arrived home from vacation so you will see one of the gaps which will be followed by more frequent videos.

4. Are there tabs for the videos? We have tabs for several of the vids but not all. We're constantly working to perfect our recording system and hope to have more tablature in the future. We do have a zipped file on the site with 30 or so "hard to find" tabs, such as the $50 dollar lick.

5. What does lifetime membership actually mean? Lifetime does mean for the life of the site which will hopefully long outlive me. If for any reason I become unable to give video lessons in the future then the site will remain active and I'll begin searching for new teachers which could be you, if you're interested.

I'm excited about becoming more involved in banjohangout. I love this site. What a great way to communicate with other banjo pickers. If anyone has any insight on the best topics here let me know.

If you have more questions please feel free to post them or email me directly and I'll be happy to help. I'll be starting up a free live lesson once a month soon. It will stream live via ustream.tv. I hope to see you on www.banjoexpert.com. Have a great day!

Ryan,
What's the difference between your site and the videos from the Itunes podcast?

Ephesians 6:11 ''Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.''

Ryanhere - Posted - 02/07/2009:  08:55:13

Brevard,

Hello, thanks for the question. Our site (http://banjoexpert.com) has free material and member's only material which is mainly instructional videos.

The itunes videos are part of the free material. The member's videos are different instructional banjo videos which are reserved for member's only.

Thanks,
Ryan

I think if Ryan gave a little more stuff to try out , where I could see what it is all about.
Is there a format for up-coming lessons or is it decided weekly ?
Will there be more advanced lessons on there ,or will it be only for the beginning players?
I thin Ryan Crist site is good but I would like to know more before I put out the
$47.00 .
Which is still alot of money.
